Weapons Policy

Please read this entire weapons policy before attending Oz Comic-Con. Failure to follow this policy may result in your removal from the convention without refund.

Attendees are required to have all weapons checked by OCC staff upon entering the event. There will be a Weapons Check Station located at the front entrance of the show. All weapons deemed unsafe by OCC security will not be allowed into the event.

Misuse of any prop weapon, such as swinging it in a public area or causing a hazard to attendees, will result in the weapon or prop being deemed unsafe for the convention. If a weapon or prop is deemed unsafe for the event due to misuse, it must be removed.

The following items are forbidden at OCC:

  • Functional firearms (including air soft guns, BB guns, cap guns, paintball guns and pellet guns)
  • Electric current emitting devices (including tasers)
  • Acoustic or light emitting anti-personal devices
  • Laser pointers with an accessible emission limit of greater than 1mW
  • Realistic replica firearms (including reproduction, fake or toy guns that can be confused for functional firearms)
  • Functional projectile weapons (including blow guns, crossbows, long bows, silly string, slingshots, water balloons and water guns)
  • Sharpened metal-bladed weapons (including axes, daggers, hatches, knives, kunai, shuriken, swords, sword canes and switch blades)
  • Explosives (including firecrackers and fireworks)
  • Chemical weapons (including mace and pepper spray)
  • Blunt weapons (including brass knuckles, clubs, extendable batons and nunchaku)
  • Concealed weapons
  • Hard prop weapons (including props made of metal, fiberglass and glass)
  • Instruments that cause excessive noise levels like vuvuzelas, grenade whistles and grenade horns
  • Any prop weapons over 1 metre in length

Please note, OCC staff have sole discretion in any matter that it believes may affect public safety or be important to protect the integrity of the event.

Note: For Oz Comic-Con, any prop that on first glance resembles a real weapon (imitation) must be checked at the weapons check desk upon entry to the show, to be checked and tagged by Oz Comic-Con staff. It is important to also recognise that any prop that falls under this category CANNOT be displayed in public outside of the show. Please check the Queensland Police site that lists weapons definitions for further details here.

Basically use best judgement and common sense and always ask an Oz Comic-Con staff member for clarification.
